Movies And Shows Coming To Amazon Prime Video USA In May 2023

Fantasy fans will want to tune into The Gryphon this May, an epic new series about a group of teens who come into contact with the world-devouring monster of the title. There are some great movies streaming this month too, including She Said, Three Thousand Years Of Longing, and the emotionally devastating Till.

Reminiscence (2021)

Hugh Jackman stars as Nick Bannister, a ‘private investigator of the mind’ who gives his clients the chance to relive any memories they desire. When he falls for one of his clients, his life becomes very complicated when another client’s memories implicate her in a series of violent crimes. This sci-fi noir thriller from writer-director Lisa Joy (Westworld) is stylishly made and enjoyable to watch though it does get a little convoluted in places.

¡Hasta la Madre! del día de las madres (2023)

Mexican comedy about a newlywed couple whose respective families get together to celebrate Mother’s Day. Will everybody get along? Or will the occasion turn into chaos? We’re guessing the latter!

Till (2022)

In 1955, teenager Emmett Till was murdered in a racist attack while visiting his cousins in Mississippi. His mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, vowed to bring the people who killed him to justice but due to the systemic racism inherent within the Joe Crow South, the men who lynched her son were acquitted of the crime. This powerful movie sheds light on Mamie Till’s story and how her son’s death sparked the Civil Rights Movement in America. Danielle Deadwyler stars as the mother who proved that one person can make a difference.

She Said (2022)

In 2017, New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor received a tip-off that a Hollywood actress had been sexually assaulted by movie producer Harvey Weinstein. Her decision to break the story with reporter Megan Twohey shattered decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault in Hollywood and it sparked the #MeToo movement which gave people the courage to talk about their experiences of sexual assault and harassment. This movie tells the story of the two reporters and the news story that caused waves within all aspects of the movie industry.

Semi-autobiographical sitcom about a San Antonio teenager who has to balance college aspirations, social expectations, and a hectic home life anchored by his mom and five uncles.

Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)

While on a trip to Istanbul, lonely scholar Alithea (Tilda Swinton) happens upon a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. Unfortunately for the Djinn, Alithea isn’t about to give away her wishes so easily! George Miller (Mad Max) directs this visually stylish fantasy that is more a story of connection and relationships than it is a spirited romp about a woman’s adventures with a magical being.

Violent Night (2022)

David Harbour takes on the role of Santa Claus in this Yuletide movie but as you can gather from the title, this isn’t something you can watch with all the family when the festive season rolls around! This movie didn’t impress a lot of critics but if you enjoyed the Mel Gibson-starring Fatman which saw Father Christmas go up against a hitman, you might enjoy this seasonal tale which sees the less-than-jovial gift giver take on a team of mercenaries.

The Gryphon – Season 1

Based on the best-selling novel The Gryphon by Wolfgang Hohlbein, this German fantasy series tells the story of three young outsiders who come into contact with a fantastic world called The Black Tower where a world-devouring Griffin lies in wait for them. Will they put an end to the beast’s reign of terror? All will be revealed when this much-anticipated show arrives on Prime.
