Backing up a Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 Database

You can create a full database backup of a Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 database.

Tip: This process is very similar to backing up a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. Refer to this article for contextual screenshots.

Performing a backup

  1. Open SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express Edition.
  2. Connect to the SQL server used by Workflow.
  3. Click the server name to expand the server tree.
  4. Expand the Databases folder and right-click the database used by Workflow.
  5. Note: The SQL server and database used by Workflow is defined using the Workflow Server Configuration Manager.

  6. Point to Tasks and select Back Up.
  7. Next to Backup Type, select Full.
  8. For Backup component, select Database.
  9. Optional: In the Description text box, enter a description of the backup.
  10. Specify when the backup will expire and can be overwritten:
  • To configure the backup to expire after a specific number of days, click After and enter the number of days. Entering zero (0) configures the backup to never expire.
  • To configure the backup to expire on a specific date, click On and enter a date.
  • Choose the type of backup destination by clicking Disk or Tape. To select more paths, click Add.
  • Optional: To view or select the advanced options, click the Options node.
  • When you have finished configuring, click OK to start the backup process.
