(1) The drone works.

(2) The quality is ok but borderline. For example, the propeller guards break easily and although they are sacrificial they simply break too easily because where they join to the ‘clip’ part that snaps on the plastic is too thin. Another example, the propeller blades where they join the ‘hub’ the plastic is too thin so the propeller blades will bend if they impact something and although you can bend them back into position (if they do not break off) the material is weakened.

(3) Battery life is not as advertised for flying time. If you use the low speed mode and hover you get right at about 9 minutes but flying around and changing altitude frequently the battery time is less around maybe 3’ish minutes. In medium and high speed mode flight time is in a range of 4-6 minutes but its unpredictable and sometimes its less depending on what you do around 2 – 3 minutes. This happened with both the batteries.

(4) The calibration procedure given in the manual doesn’t work, and the way the instruction manual is written its undefined as to under what powered up operating condition the drone is suppose to be calibrated even though it gives a procedure to do it. The drone light is suppose to flash rapidly using the manual procedure but the drone light never flashes rapidly so you never know if its entered a calibration mode or not and it doesn’t appear to be ‘calibrated’ any different than it operates out of the box which required (for us) adjustment of trim several times to get a semi-stable hover.

(5) The trim adjustments for left-right and forward-back seem to be interactive with each other. For example, If you adjust trim left a little for an almost stable hover it starts creeping forward even though before the left trim adjustment the forward-back trim was fine and it was stable in those two directions.

(6) The remote joysticks leave a lot to be desired but its cheap to begin with so its kinda Ok for what it is if what you expected was cheap and not fully capable as one expects the joysticks to be and they are not smooth in movement but rather a sort of almost sticky type of movement.

(7) Although it can be used with a phone the phone needs to have a Wi-Fi connection. This is OK, but the problem is some phones it did not work with with. For example, We tried two phones, both android phones – a samsung and a motorola both had wi-fi but only one would work with the drone even though the software installed and seemed functional on each phone. So we tried an iPhone and it didn’t work with that one either even though it had a wi-fi connection, but with another iPhone it worked.

(8) Charging time for a battery is 2 1/2 hours minimum, you get two batteries. For basically only a few minutes of flight time it takes too long for the batteries to charge, and even if you swap to another charged battery, the flight time is too short and frustrations with basic functions for any serious ‘beginner’ learning or enjoyment.

(9) It does this weird thing randomly with throttle up or down, one or two propellers stop spinning causing it to veer off wildly.

(10) The throttle: Its not very responsive and can become either full speed or nothing very quickly before you can correct. The throttle joystick mechanically seems to have an issue with always returning to center so you have to sort of bump it a little.

Ok, its not an expensive drone so kinda don’t expect something like the more expensive quality drones. But, its rated as a beginner drone and for ages 14 and up and for that its frustrating and disappointing to learn with and its more like work than something to enjoy.

It would be better to spend the money and get something of better quality and functionality. For example, auto hover and return home features and stable rotation and tilt and learning modes and programmable modes (e.g. return home before battery runs out instead of just dropping into a wooded area to be lost or difficult to find) and auto-stabilizing position hold to counter movement with the wind. For a beginner a better quality drone is going to be much more instructive, better to learn with, enjoyable and of better quality and more useful.

Edit add: Right after I wrote the review one of the motors on the drone quit working completely. I was going to return it anyway but the motor quitting prompted me to do it sooner so I’ve returned it for a refund. I have changed my previous almost-generous-and-very-forgiving rating of two stars to one star. I do not recommend you buy this drone. Although its cheap, and ya know that going in its simply not worth your time or money. If you are really interested in a drone spend a few hundred bucks on something like a DeerRC beginner drone (they have them here on amazon for example > https://www.amazon.com/DEERC-Anti-Shake-Brushless-Waypoints-Backpack/dp/B085VLSZ1S/ref=sr_1_28?crid=12ED3OWC0U1JJ&keywords=vantop%2B-%2Bsnaptain%2Bsp7100s%2Bdrone%2Bwith%2Bremote%2Bcontroller&qid=1672776068&s=toys-and-games&sprefix=Vantop%2Ctoys-and-games%2C148&sr=1-28&th=1 )
