10 Things You Should Know about Amazon Game Studios, Seattle — Amazon Game Studios

Curious about what life is like at Amazon Game Studios, Seattle? Here are some things you might not know about our studio and the neighborhood we call home.

  • One of the projects in progress in our Seattle studio is Crucible. It’s a third-person shooter where players battle to become the last survivor on a lush, alien world, making and breaking alliances along the way. It takes a mix of combat skill, strategic planning, and social finesse to survive — and our internal playtests get pretty intense. We can’t wait to show it to you and hear what you think.
  • We’re located less than a mile from some of Seattle’s most iconic spots, like Pike Place Market, MoPOP, the Space Needle, and the original Starbucks.
  • In the ’60s, our neighborhood was home to a thriving theater district, including the UA 70 and 150, one of the first multiple-screen theaters in the country. One cinema remains from that time: Cinerama, an epic theater that opened back in 1963 and still shows the latest blockbusters, as well as cult classics, on a 97-foot curved screen. It also serves chocolate popcorn — what more could you want in a theater?
  • We’re also right down the street from the new Amazon Spheres, glass domes set to open in 2018 that will hold lush vegetation and even a waterfall when they’re complete, and the world’s first Amazon Go store.
  • We like to get a jump on the weekend — starting with Treat Yourself Thursdays, followed by a Beer & Wine Friday party every week in our lobby.
  • The Washington State Convention Center, which hosts PAX West, as well as Emerald City Comicon and Sakura-Con, is just blocks from our studio.
  • Our studio is dog friendly! On any given day you’ll find dogs of all shapes and sizes walking our halls. And luckily for them, a new public dog park just opened up next to the Spheres, too.
  • In a nod to the neighborhood’s history — and to Amazon’s passion for entertainment — our whole building is movie-themed. Each floor is dedicated to a different genre, including comedy, mystery, and fantasy.
  • The force is with us: For the last two Star Wars movie openings, we’ve bought out Cinerama for a team screening. And eaten a lot of chocolate popcorn.
  • Finally, yes, the rumors are true: It does rain a lot here. An average of 152 days a year, to be precise. But don’t expect monsoons; most days it’s just the signature Northwest drizzle. Our annual rainfall averages 37.17 inches — much lower than places like NYC, Atlanta, and Miami!
