Background: Overweight and obese children are the
priority problems of developing countries. Vung Tau city is urban area of grade
1, with the speed of rapid urbanization and per capita income higher than the
national average, but there is no information on overweight and obese children
in Kindregartens currently.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of
overweight and obese children 3-6 years old and some related factors in
Kindergartens at Vung Tau city.

Methods: The descriptive cross-sectional study
was performed in 840 children from 3 to 6 years old at 20 Kindergartens in Vung
Tau city. They were measured height and weight. Their parents and teachers
provided relevant information according to prepared questionnaire.

Results: The prevalance of overweight and obese
children in Kindergartens at Vung Tau city in 2014 to 2015 was 36.4%, in that
the obesity rate was 18.2%. Children whose parents with overweight, obese
status have the overweight or obese pervalance higher than those having normal
parents 1.72 times (95% CI: 1.29 -2.30). These gluttonous children have this
proportion higher than people with normal feeding 1.80 times (95% CI: 1.41 to
2.29). This prevalence in children often watch television higher than those
without watching 2.12 times (95% CI: 1.22 to 3.70).

Conclussion: The overweight and obese reality of
preschool children is very high. There should be educational programs, training
on nutrition, exercise and how to assess overweight and obese children for
parents, teachers to coordinate in prevention this problems.
