back pain could influence ones quality
of life and economy. It is the most common symptom of lumbar spine
osteoarthritis, which accounts for 31.120% of joint disorder. Recently,
high-frequency electroacupuncture at Hua-Tuo jiaji has been used to treat such
cases. Some earlier studies sought to investigate the effeciency of 100 Hz or 2
Hz electroacupuncture and its pain-relieving and anti inflamation effects.
However, there is no study concentrating on those effects, specifically at
Hua-Tuo jiaji points. This study aims to compare the pain relieving effect on
low back pain of 100 Hz and 2 Hz electroacupuncture at Hua-Tuo jiaji points.
Materials and Methods: This is a randomized
controlled trial at the Traditional Medicine Hospital at Ho Chi Minh City from
September 2018 to May 2019. The trial group of 62 patients with lumbar
osteoarthritis was treated with a daily 20-minute electropuncture using
frequency of 100 Hz at L2-S1 Hua-tuo Jiaji points and Doc hoat tang ky sinh
herbal remedy for 14 days. In control group, 62 patients were received a daily
20-minute electropuncture using frequency of 2 Hz at L2-S1 Hua-tuo Jiaji points
and Doc hoat tang ky sinh herbal remedy for 14 days. Outcome measures include
QDSA scale at baseline, on day 1, day 7 and day 14.
Results: After 14 days of treatment, 87% patients in the trial
group had good and fair-good results, in which 29% had no more pain. In the
control group, 45% patients had fair-good results and no patient had good
results.
Conclusion: The combination of 100 Hz electroacupuncture at Hua-tuo
jiaji points and Doc hoat tang ky sinh herbal remedy yielded better results in
treating chronic low back pain of lumbar osteoarthritis than the combination of
2 Hz electroacupuncture at Hua-tuo jiaji points and Doc hoat tang ky sinh
herbal remedy.
