Adding a touch of country to songs of other genre makes it a better music.

True enough, before Back at One became a country hit, it was first a soulful piece of music written and recorded by American RnB artist Brian McKnight. Back at One was released from his fifth studio album of the same name in 1999.

Back at One went on to be one of McKnight’s biggest successes, reaching the top 10 in New Zealand and Canada. In the US , it eventually peaked at number 2 for eight weeks. But it was kept out of the top spot by Smooth by Santana.

In addition, McKnight also performed the song with Brazilian singer Ivete Sangalo on her album Festa.

Mark Wills: The Country Touch

American country singer Mark Wills covered Back at One on his 1999 album Permanently. Also, he released it as his album’s first single. Released two months after McKnight’s version, Wills’ cover peaked at number 2 on the Billboard country singles charts for a week. It was the song behind My Best Friend by Tim McGraw.

Despite not reaching the top spot in the US, the song did manage to reach number one on the Canadian RPM country tracks. In addition to his country chart success, Back at One also became his fifth entry on the Hot 100 charts, peaking at number 36 there.

Back at One: The Story

This song is about the feeling of falling in love with a girl. Also, it is about knowing you need to do everything you can because she is right for you. The chorus is a list of reasons why she is right, and the fourth step is to make her fall in love with you.

One…you’re like a dream come true,
Two… just wanna be with you,
Three… girl its plain to see…that you’re the only one for me, and
Four…repeat steps one through three,
Five… make you fall in love with me.
If ever I believe my work is done….then I start Back at One.
