Lowestoft’s man of a thousand rollercoasters picks his 10 favourite rides

This week also marked Rollercoaster Day, a day in which people can celebrate the zooming, whizzing and often looping attractions.

With places such as Pleasurewood Hills and the Pleasure Beach, our region boasts many of its own, however, it is also home to one of the biggest fans of the rides.

David Ellis, of Lowestoft, has ridden more than 1,000 different rollercoasters in his time.

The financial expert, who works as an advisor for the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, has even ridden some naked.

To mark the anniversary of his favourite hobby, he has selected his top 10 rollercoasters and where to find them. Caution: some travel is necessary.

The region’s fastest rollercoaster, reaching speeds of 50mph, Wipeout takes thrill-seekers both forwards, backwards and upside-down.

The Wooden Rollercoaster, Pleasure Beach, Great Yarmouth

One of the oldest coasters in the country and still going strong. Built in 1932, it still features use of a brakeman, giving a nostalgic and thrilling experience.
