I had quite a bit of green apples accumulated and I am always down for a dairy free smoothie, so it made perfect sense to get blending.
I really love coupling a banana and apple together, the flavors are great together. Sprinkle in some complementing spices and the flavor turns up a notch.

✔️What You’ll Need
🥘 Ingredients Notes
Banana pieces should be frozen, this helps with making this banana and apple smoothie thick and creamy. 1 small banana is all that is required.
Green apple with or without the skin. Chop up 1 small – medium apple before adding to the blender. I like to add my apples last to ensure they don’t turn brown. If you have a lot of apples, check out this article for best storage apples.
Hemp seeds help to create a thick consistency, also add some bulk and are a good source of protein among other nutrients. Hemp seeds are found in the health food section or can be purchased online (affiliate link).
Medjool date needs to be pitted prior to adding into the blender. Only one is required, as they do add quite a bit of sweetness. However, you can adjust the amount used to suit your taste.
Almond milk can be store-bought or homemade. If you’d like to try making your own, here’s a quick video of how to make almond milk.
Cinnamon and nutmeg are complement spices and add a mild spicy sweetness. These spices also add antioxidants and are anti-inflammatory, among other health-boosting properties.
Some of these ingredients can also be found in this list of easy plant based smoothies.
🔪 Step by step guide
Step 1 – Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend for 2 minutes or until smooth.
Step 2 – Pour into a cup and enjoy immediately or take away with you.
⭐Pro Tips
A combination of fresh and frozen fruit will help keep this smoothie creamy and thick. You can use all fresh ingredients, however, the consistency may not be as thick, start by adding half of the milk amount and build up the consistency to the desired thickness.
Any blender will work, however, a high powered blender (affiliate link) is the quickest and will yield a smoother result. If your blender doesn’t have a smoothie setting, just blend until all the contents are blended.
Feel free to adjust the quantities of the ingredients to suit your liking.
🍏Variations
The following are suggestions, however, you can adjust/replace/omit any ingredient of this banana and apple smoothie.
Any plant milk can be used rather than almond milk.
Maple syrup (or any natural liquid sweetener) can be used rather than Medjool date to sweeten this dairy-free smoothie. Start with a tablespoon and adjust as required.
If you desire supplement or protein powders, feel free to add a scoop of your preferred flavor.
A small handful of leafy greens can be added, e.g., spinach or kale. Note – this will alter the color of this smoothie
Nut butters can also be added. Try adding ones that are all-natural. Try peanut, almond or cashew butters. Start with a tablespoon and adjust as required.
❓FAQ
