BMW K1300 R Bike Overview
If you liked the BMW K1200 R – you’ll love the K1300 R. BMW updated its bonkers mega-naked machine in 2009, with a capacity increase, more power and torque, and lighter weight from chassis tweaks. The K range also saw a slew of new equipment updates, with refined traction control and ABS setups, updated ESA semi-active electronic suspension adjustment and smart quickshifter setup.
On the road, the K1300 R is as crazy as you want it to be. On a steady commute to work, say, the engine is smooth, with clean throttle control and easy low-down power. The forward-canted engine keeps the weight down low, and it’s much more manageable through town that you might think.
Start tapping into the full 173bhp on offer from the inline-four motor though, and things quickly get exciting. BMW didn’t mess about with this engine design, and it’s a proper high-performance lump. There’s stacks of drive everywhere in the rev range, and only your licence and sense of self-preservation will hold you back…
The K1300 R was discontinued in 2015, with BMW’s smaller, lighter and sharper S1000 R taking over the super-naked mantle. The S1000 R is a better bike, for sure – but we do miss the brutal, crazy nature of the K1300 R.
