At Midnight (2023)

Monica Barbaro, you are better than this… but in a sea of painful mediocrity, your presence was a shining light.

At Midnight is about as generic and cliche as you’d expect a Paramount+ Original Rom-Com to be, offering absolutely nothing to expand on the genre. The screenplay is as bland as the trailer made it out to be and even the surprisingly sweet chemistry of our two leads couldn’t save my viewing experience. If the pace and sloppy-ness of the first half carried across the entire film this very well could’ve been a .5/5. Luckily the film tightens up and gives us a tolerable romance. Nonetheless, we’ve seen this movie a million times before. It checks off every Rom-Com cliche and doesn’t do anything to seperate itself from the overdone early-2000s Rom-Coms.
