Apple Music and Apple TV Apps Finally Released for Windows

Apple Music and Apple TV are finally arriving as dedicated apps for Windows.

Back in October, Microsoft mentioned that Apple was working on the apps. On Thursday, preview versions of Apple Music(Opens in a new window) and Apple TV(Opens in a new window) became available on the Microsoft Store—but only for Windows 11 users in the US. (Sorry, no Windows 10 support.)

In 2019, Apple decided to kill iTunes and release standalone apps for Apple Music and Apple TV for Mac users. But the company refrained from bringing the same apps to Windows. Instead, it kept the Windows version of iTunes around, forcing Windows users to rely on the outdated iTunes app or Apple Music on the web. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ could only be accessed via a web browser.

Hence, the new apps promise to make it easier to access both Apple services on Windows. That said, the apps are preview versions, meaning “not all features may work as expected,” Apple says.

In addition, the company notes: “After installing the Apple Music preview, iTunes will no longer open, and audiobooks or podcasts on this device will be inaccessible until a compatible version of iTunes is released. To revert back to iTunes, you’ll need to uninstall this version of the app.”

The same is true if you install the Apple TV app. So using either one will effectively kill off your iTunes access. To compensate for the iTunes loss, Apple has released a third app, called Apple Devices(Opens in a new window). This will allow you manage and sync your Apple hardware over a Windows PC similar to what iTunes can do.
