American Girl in Italy: The Making of a Classic Catalog
This 40-page catalog was produced for the exhibit Jinx Allen in Florence that was held at the Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York City in 2005.
It includes many of the photographs that were taken by Ruth Orkin at the same time to show what it was like to travel alone. Orkin met Ninalee Craig who became the model in the photographs at her hotel in Florence in August, 1951 and the rest is history.
The photograph is one of the best known photographs in the world, and is Ruth Orkin’s signature image. The catalog includes an essay by Ninalee Craig, and also a story from The New York Times, “The Making of a Classic” by Shaun Considine.
