Amazon Accidentally Sends PSP Gamer Four Copies of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

Amazon accidentally sends a PSP gamer four copies of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. The PSP is still the only place that fans can play this iteration of Metal Gear Solid, and now this gamer has three extra copies of the game due to Amazon’s mistake.

Rumors of a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake with Virtuos are starting to heat up, as the company just recently added Konami to its client list with the possibility of an announcement at The Game Awards in December. As a result, fans and newcomers alike may want to dust off their old copies, or purchase them to play while they still can. One gamer did just that, as they purchased Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops from Amazon, but they received more than what they bargained for.

Reddit User 1-Eyed_Mad_Dragon-04 posted an image showcasing 4 total copies of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops stacked on top of each other, which they had received from Amazon after purchasing a copy of the game. Perhaps what is most striking about the image is being reminded of the classic PlayStation logo. The user ponders whether the package was intentional or just a mistake, and asks the community if it’s happened to anyone else. The community responds by suggesting that the extra copies could be resold, while some even ask if they can purchase a copy themselves.

Unfortunately, Portable Ops multiplayer servers are down, so offering the extra copies to others so that the game can be enjoyed together would be out of the question. However, it does bring up memories of what could have been regarding the potential of the PSP and PS Vita in reference to what the Nintendo Switch is now, as those PlayStation handhelds came to be known as ahead of their time, at least in some regard. The PlayStation handhelds were home to many Metal Gear Solid titles, such as MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3 HD, Portable Ops, Peace Walker, and even the spinoff Metal Gear Acid titles. Players with a PS Vita could have access to every mainline Metal Gear Solid title other than MGS4 and Metal Gear Solid 5.

Metal Gear Solid fans may be hopeful that this was intentional, seeing as how Amazon could be clearing space for a potential Metal Gear Solid comeback, similar to the Silent Hill resurgence from Konami. However, it was almost certainly a mistake, although the possibilities of what’s to come regarding the future of Metal Gear Solid is still fun to think about.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is available for the PSP.
