Why can’t we have ios install free… | Apple Developer Forums

I have been talking to a number of non-technical users recently and a questions that keeps coming up is why they need their apple id password to install free apps on their iPhone. Many times they do not remember this password and what should be a simple process becomes painful. I wonder how many free app download opportunities are missed because of this.

I propose that installing a free app only have a confirmation dialog asking “Are you sure you want to install this freel app?” with yes or no as the two options.

This would not apply to paid apps or apps with in-app purchases.

I know that there is an option to use a TouchID instead of typing in a password. I had to go looking for how to turn this on as I assumed it must exist.
