What is the best order to watch the American Pie movies?
In 1999, American Pie opened in cinemas. The teen sex comedy, focused on a group of high school friends who vowed to lose their virginity before graduation.
American Pie was a big hit with audiences, spawning a string of sequels and spin-offs. But what are the American Pie movies and what is the best viewing order for the films?

The American Pie viewing order

As noted above, American Pie was the first entry in the film series. The movie arrived in cinemas during summer ‘99 and introduced characters such as Jim Levenstein and Steve Stifler.
American Pie struck a chord with audiences and proved to be box office gold. As such, a sequel was put into production, arriving in cinemas in 2001.
American Pie 2 proved to be another hit, so a third film was given the go ahead. This next entry – titled American Wedding – was conceived as the final film in the series and was to bring some closure to the story.

The films had proved popular with audiences, but with interest waining, it was time to put the big screen tales to bed. However, keen not to abandon the brand completely, Universal Studios made the decision to green light a direct-to-DVD spin-off.
The movie – American Pie Presents: Band Camp – featured a couple of characters from the theatrical series, but largely introduced new players. The film was to tell a side-story, independent of the three previous movies.

Band Camp proved popular at retail and another entry was released the following year. The movie – American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile – was also popular and led to two further films: American Pie Presents: Beta House and American Pie Presents: The Book of Love.
After four direct-to-DVD titles, Universal decided to revive the theatrical films for a fourth big screen story. American Reunion hit cinemas in 2012, and brought back most of the original cast from American Pie.

American Reunion was popular, but not quite as popular as Universal had hoped. However, this didn’t deter the studio and a new direct-to-DVD movie was eventually put into production under the title, American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rule.
That’s a lot more American Pie movies than you expected, isn’t it?
