What Most Americans Eat For Breakfast

We’ve all heard the same thing forever: breakfast is the most important meal that we’re going to eat every day. People all over the world eat unique breakfast foods but according to Fox News, most Americans have breakfast three days a week, not every single day. That might not be shocking since we often hear from friends that they can only stomach a hot cup of coffee in the morning or they don’t have time to cook before leaving for work.

Everyone loves going out to awesome brunch restaurants but what about the food that we eat every morning at home? Keep reading to find out what most Americans eat for breakfast.

When we’re traveling and enjoying breakfast in a beautiful setting, it’s not very likely that we’re going to order a bowl of cereal and milk. It seems kind of ordinary, right?

Well, that’s exactly why this is a breakfast food that many Americans eat on a regular basis. Out of 2,000 Americans who were part of a study by OnePoll and Sabra, 56 percent had cereal for breakfast regularly. This definitely makes sense: cereal is quick and easy to prepare before going to work and it’s also a nostalgic breakfast since many people ate it as children.

According to Eat This, Shopkick surveyed 43,000 people living in the United States and found that 96 percent would purchase cereal every single time they headed to the supermarket. 41 percent said that they would get two boxes and one-third say one box.

It’s Eggs Every Day For Many Americans

65 percent of people part of the same study said that they ate eggs in the morning. While eggs might be a bit more time-consuming than pouring some cereal into a bowl and topping it with milk, scrambling or frying some eggs is still pretty simple. The Washington Post says that Americans consume this many eggs weekly: 279.

Adding some bacon to the mix on the weekends is also popular, and according to Eater.com, there’s some history behind that. Edward Bernays, the famous public relations consultant, started working for The Beech-Nut Packing Company to make Americans love and want to buy more bacon. A campaign started that quoted the company’s doctor who said that Americans should have a “heavier” morning meal, and eating bacon and eggs just makes sense to people.

Avocado Toast Is Beloved, Too

29 percent of people involved in the study had avocado toast (or toast with hummus on it) in the morning. As it turns out, Americans pay a lot of money for avocados on a monthly basis. Americans paid $890,500 for avocado toast in June 2017 and $17,000 in June 2014.

Sure, a lot of people criticize avocado toast and say that it’s too trendy, but the fact is that many Americans love eating it for breakfast. As a Reddit user shared, they don’t understand why people dislike it so much: “Anyone who actually enjoys eating food knows that avocados have a great creamy, rich flavor – what’s not to like? It’s basically the same as buttered toast, only tastier, better for you, and more filling.”

These are the breakfast foods that most Americans eat: cereal, eggs, and avocado toast. It’s cool to learn about the most popular morning meals, especially since these three things are super delicious. Let’s go make some fried eggs and put them on creamy avocado toast… and pour some cereal for tomorrow’s breakfast.
