Growing in Phoenix: Also called wax apple or love apple. It is very closely related to the rose apple and the Malay apple. The fruit is small to medium in size, bell-shaped The skin is smooth and ranges from purple, red, to pale green. A slight ribbing and a light sheen resembling a wax coating. The flesh is white, spongy, and airy. The texture is slightly crunchy and juicy with a delicate sweet flavor similar to an Asian pear. An attractive tree with dark bluish-green leaves.
Provide a filtered light all day, or afternoon shade. Soil pH should be maintained at 6 and regular applications of soil sulfur, chelated iron, and chelated manganese are required. In winter protect below 30. It can be container grown.
