Vintage Leather American Football – John Woodbridge Makers

Replica of a 1930s model, John Woodbridge’s vintage American football is formed from 4 hand-sewn leather panels. Full grain cow leather selected from among the best in terms of resistance and quality. Its patina offers a retro style to create a vintage atmosphere of US inspiration.

Derived from football and rugby imported from England to North America at the end of the nineteenth century, American football was first played in universities before the mythical association of professional teams was founded in 1920: the NFL. From then on, the sport which would become the most popular in the United States a few years later experienced a strong expansion with the establishment in 1933 of a grand final between the two best teams of the East and the West. This first opposes on December 17 at Wrigley Field, a Chicago baseball stadium, the Chicago Bears to the New York Giants. In front of 26,000 spectators, the locals won 23 to 21. This match was the ancestor of the Super Bowl which would be created a few years later in the 1960s.
