The Sky at Night (TV Series)

“The Sky at Night” is a monthly astronomy programme that was presented by Patrick Moore from April 1957 until January 2013 (his final edition had been filmed before his death in December 2012). Moore’s time on the show made it the longest-running programme with the same presenter. Astrophysicist Dr Chris Lintott has co-presented the series for a number of years and he took over from Moore as the main anchor from February 2012 onwards. Each edition features leading astronomers explaining a range of astronomical and space-related topics, such as black holes, the possibility of life on other planets, the threat of asteroids, the mathematical link between music and astronomy, the birth of the universe, and star-gazing. Moore presented the 700th edition of the show on BBC One in March 2011. It was a special retrospective episode featuring impressionist Jon Culshaw as Moore’s younger self and contributions by particle physicist Brian Cox and Astronomer Royal Martin Rees.
