The Best Rain Boots on Amazon of 2023

There is nothing worse than walking to work when— squish —that 1-inch puddle turns out to be a lot deeper than you thought. A great pair of rain boots will handle that and so much more, with designs that are stylish, comfortable, durable, and will be a staple of your wet-weather wear for years to come.

We’ve looked into several rain boots over the years—as well as waterproof winter boots for men and winter boots for women—so we know how tricky it is to shop for boots. To find the best rain boots for men and women, we drew on that knowledge and dove into thousands of user reviews to find the ones that look great, feel comfy, and will hold up for a long time to come.

Hunter Women’s Original Short Rain Boots

Hunter rain boots have been one of the best rain boots for women for years, and for good reason: they are comfortable, fully waterproof, and they can last for a decade if properly cared for. The classic “short” rain boot is a 9.5-inch calf-high rubber boot, with a rubber sole and a short 1.18-inch heel for exceptional waterproofing and durability.

This model is available in more than a dozen colors and a range of full sizes only, from women’s 5 to 11 (standard width). Style-wise, it keeps things very simple, letting the high-quality construction and classic styling do the talking—especially the bold, simple Hunter label emblazoned on the front. Fit-wise, you can expect these to be relatively true to size, though like most rain boots, the lack of laces and zippers makes them a bit tricky to get on unless you size up a bit, which in that case you may need some thick socks.

Pros

  • Excellent waterproof construction

  • Premium look and feel

  • Superb durability

Cons

  • Tough to get your foot in

  • Needs to be broken in

Product image of Asgard Women's Waterproof Chelsea Boots

Asgard Women’s Waterproof Chelsea Boots

We originally tested the Asgard Chelsea boot to see how well these sub-$50 boots compared to $150 boots from Hunter. The Asgard boots surprised us with their neat styling and effective waterproofing for shallow puddles and light rain. Though hardly built to last forever, if you want the cutest women’s rain boots, these are a good choice that won’t cost you a ton.

The main differences we observed when compared to pricier alternatives was the look and feel—they are just a bit more muted and there’s more glue holding things together than stitching. That likely means they won’t hold up forever, but at this price, you could go through two or three before paying the same amount as other brands.

As a “Chelsea”-style boot, these have just a short shaft of 5.5-inches, dipping down slightly on the elastic part of the cuff. That makes them easy to take on and off, but gives you only a little bit of depth where the waterproofing is truly effective. Size-wise, these cover a huge range, from women’s 4-12 (standard width) depending on the color you choose, though no half-sizes.

Pros

  • Affordable

  • Waterproof

  • Comfortable out of the box

Cons

  • Some durability concerns

  • Short height

Product image of Bogs Bozeman Tall Men's Insulated Waterproof Boots

Bogs Bozeman Tall Men’s Insulated Waterproof Boots

If you are looking for a more serious calf-high, tall boot that provides comfort, traction, durability, and waterproofing, these are the boots to look at. They provide a textile/rubber mix upper, full-synthetic sole, a 13-inch shaft, and a hand-shaped rubber bootie to provide dual-layer waterproofing. They also have Bogs’ “Max-Wick” material to help evaporate sweat to keep your feet dry, even if they get warm.

These fit a bit small according to reviewers, especially in the toe box, but they are ideal for anyone that wants a waterproof rain boot that can also handle deep mud, slippery terrain, and so much more. Just note that the sizing here is based on men’s lasts, so women should expect to size down 1.5 to 2 sizes from their typical choice. Speaking of which, these are available in men’s sizes from 7 to 14 (full sizes only), standard width.

Pros

  • Warm, insulated rain boots

  • Great traction

  • Excellent waterproofing

Cons

  • Tricky to get on

  • Fits small

Product image of Kamik Goliath1 Winter Boots

Kamik Goliath1 Winter Boots

The Kamik Goliath boots are a perfect companion if you need boots that keep your feet dry and (relatively) warm in typical rainy/cold conditions. These are knee-high boots that feature a 100% rubber upper, synthetic sole, and a textured cuff with a drawstring to help keep rain and snow out. Note that the sizing here is based on men’s lasts, but if you typically wear women’s sizes, you can just size down one or two.

Reviewers rave about these boots, especially their ability to hold up to tough conditions, though they are designed primarily for average-to-cold winters and not the kind of extreme weather you get in some places. They come in a range of full sizes, from men’s 7-15, and have plenty of room in them for multiple pairs of warm socks, but I would be hesitant to use these in conditions below 20°F—for that you should check out our guide to the best men’s winter boots.

Pros

  • Classic waterproof rubber boot

  • Rubber sole

  • Knee high

Cons

  • Fits large

  • Minimal insulation

Product image of Sperry Men’s Avenue Duck Boot

Sperry Men’s Avenue Duck Boot

With over 7,000 reviews and 4.5 stars on Amazon, these rain boots are the perfect boot for the man looking for something basic and budget-friendly. The Sperry Men’s Avenue Duck Boot comes in multiple colors, is made of seam-sealed waterproof leather, and offers a comfortable, full-length foam footbed.

As for the rubber outsole with lugs, reviewers aren’t huge fans of the traction—reporting that it’s weak. They also find these boots to feel narrow, making them more ideal for the guy with longer, narrower feet.

Pros

  • Excellent waterproof construction

  • Soft, memory foam footbed

  • Affordable

Cons

  • Runs narrow

  • Not the best traction
