There’s a Hellraiser remake? Coming out in only a few months? Jesus Christ I had no idea I was living under a rock!
I’m expecting most of them will be changed to straight-to-dvd like a month before their supposed theatrical release like that April Fool’s Day remake and a few other ones that I saw at Blockbuster and had a good laugh at with my buds.
Seriously when are studios going to learn that people don’t want that shit and they’re just wasting money? I never thought learning from the mistakes of the past could be so easily avoided!

I was at Blockbuster the other day looking for the ORIGINAL Prom Night or When a Stranger Calls…and they don’t carry them.
All they carry are the remakes! It’s bullshit.

Seriously? My Blockbuster has a HUGE horror section. But I’m pretty sure it’s solely because of me and my friends because we go there 2-3 times a week to rent scary flicks… and that’s all we’ve rented for the last, like, 10 years. lol.
I’m totally serious when I say I think they cater to their customers, in a way. There’s another blockbuster down on the other side of town and it’s where at the new artsy flicks come out at b/c it’s closest to the university. If your store only carries remakes… :/ You got a lot of 13 y.o boys in your town maybe?

They’ll watch it just so they can complain more about it. Even if it’s the same old song and dance over and over again. Apparently, they never get tired of whining.

I don’t plan to watch it, I haven’t watched any of the other horrible remakes that have come out lately either. And like the person said below me, this crap will make the original shine in comparison. Give me a good story over pointless “JUMP” moments any day.

i really wish studios would just release the original films with subtitles because seriously, nearly every asian film that’s been remade for english speaking audiences has been kind of embarrassing.

I want to see the original so bad because I heard it is truly fucking scary. I’m sure America will just water it down like they do all other foreign scary movies.

No lie, I watched it with 20 other people [boys and girls] in one room at a party. Some were on the bed, others on the floor. Before the movie was over, EVERYONE was on the tiny-ass bed closing their eyes and holding onto each other.
Lol, good times.

It is very scary, and heartbreaking. Sounds like a weird combination, but it works, and brilliantly. It’s a gorgeous film. I recommend google-researching the folktale it’s based on, before if you don’t mind “spoilers” and want to really appreciate the cultural aspects as you watch, after if you’re worried about ruining it for yourself. There are a lot of little subtle details that make it even more amazing if you know where they came from.
I also used to knock the long-scraggle-haired-female-ghost trope until I read about the onryo figure in Kabuki theater, and now instead of annoying, it’s fascinating!

It’s because movie studios have an incredibly negative opinion regarding Americans’ intellect…
Korean Studio: It’s called ‘A Tale of Two Sisters’ and is about two sisters and their relationship – oh, and it’s a pretty damn good horror flick!
American Studio: That sounds goshdarn fabulicious! But… ‘A Tale of Two Sisters’? Sounds like a pr0n! Must be changed!
Korean Studio: But it’s the whole… you know, POINT. It’s what the movie IS.
American Studio: SOUNDS LIKE pr0n! Or a chick flick. Actually… no, that’s not our target demographic, SCRAP IT.
KS: For what? ‘The Girl and Her Ghost’? What kind of stupid shit do you think you can pull with our work-
AS: We own it now! It’s ours! One word + the, that’s what’s HOT now. And all those fat, lazy, stupid people in this country can comprehend! Plus, how else with they know it’s based on a scary Japanese movie?
KS: We’re KOREAN.
AS: The Eye, The Ring, The Grudge… How about THE UNINVITED.
KS: Fuck you, we’re OUT.
jesus I need some sleep. I could have kept going. Actually, I did in my head… yeah, I really need to go to sleep now.

Yeah a lot of the times English titles are translated to be completely different. Take for instance the really uber shitty J-horror film called Hypnosis, in Japanese mind you, yeah got translated to The Hypnotist. Or for instance Gwoemul (Monster) in Korean but called The Host in English.
It’s a really bizarre trend.
