The 15 Best Hotel Room Views of New York City

New York City has a lot of, well, everything, and that also extends to its hotel inventory. As of 2022, NYC boasts a whopping 120,000 hotel rooms spread across the five boroughs, which means that there is certainly a hotel out there for even the most exacting of travelers who want a Central Park view or bust. The flip side of that statement, of course, is that not every hotel will afford guests that Instagrammable moment right outside their window. Even some of the city’s premier properties might still have rooms with views of a brick wall or a rather lackluster street scene.

But luckily, we’ve done the research to scope out the hotels with the absolute best views of New York City. From grande dames that look out onto Central Park South to properties in locations you may have never considered (we’re looking at you, John F. Kennedy International Airport), read on to discover the 16 best New York City hotels for a room with a view.

We like to think of The Plaza as a Goldilocks hotel: Its location, service, and rooms are “just right” for many types of travelers. And at number 10 on our Best Hotels of New York City list, we think you’ll agree, too. Of course, it’s also perhaps the most renowned hotel in all of NYC, which makes staying here — with all the decades of history swirling around you — a special treat. Located at the southern corner of Central Park, request a room with a Park view; our favorite is the Carnegie Partial Park View One-Bedroom Suite. At 1,000 square feet, the rooms are enormous, and also come with butler service and fresh flowers.

But upstairs, the sleek, blond wood-paneled rooms (each with floor-to-ceiling windows)  are Zen-like in their minimalism. The views here are best seen in bed and show off the bustling Lower East Side and Midtown’s skyline. The Loft Great View room has an especially great corner view of the city, thanks to the extra windows. Make time to grab a drink at The Roof bar,  which features stunning 360-degree views of the neighborhood.

Why We Chose It

A design-forward hotel in the middle of Times Square that still feels like an urban oasis.

Key Specs

  • Free Wi-Fi: Yes
  • Resort Fee: $35 per day
  • Room Rate: $$$

Notable Amenities

24-hour gym, Paradise Club with live DJ performances, Le Labo bath products

Hotel Description

While many New Yorkers avoid spending time in Times Square due to the tourist crowds and never-ending traffic, The Times Square EDITION is actually a New Yorker-approved spot. You’ll find locals enjoying a drink at its chic bars or catching late-night music at Paradise Club, but those who book a room are even luckier. The City View rooms in particular, with their floor-to-ceiling window access onto Times Square and Midtown, possess one of the best vantage points in the city. And when the weather is temperate, we also recommend a casual meal or cocktail at chef John Fraser’s The Terrace and Outdoor Gardens.

Why We Chose It

An airport hotel you’ll actually want to stay in, with incredible views of the planes taking off, to boot.

Key Specs

  • Free Wi-Fi: Yes
  • Resort Fee: None
  • Room Rate: $$$

Notable Amenities

Martini bar in room, rooftop pool, Connie the cocktail lounge (inside a 1958 Lockheed Constellation “Connie” airplane)

Hotel Description

We almost can’t believe we’re recommending a hotel at JFK Airport, but once you step inside the 1960s time capsule that is the TWA Hotel, you’ll understand why. Housed inside Eero Saarinen’s famed 1962 TWA Flight Center, this hotel is retro in the best possible way — think a Twister Room and lots of plush red fabric — while filled with all the modern conveniences you need. And if you’re a plane nerd, there is nowhere better to spend the night. We recommend booking a Runway View room to be up close and personal with the planes taking off from Terminal 5.

Why We Chose It

Williamsburg’s most action-packed (and only true luxury) hotel features dreamy views of the East River and Manhattan’s skyline.

Key Specs

  • Free Wi-Fi: Yes
  • Resort Fee: $25 per day
  • Room Rate: $$

Notable Amenities

Balcony in every room, outdoor pool, seasonal ice rink

Hotel Description

As number three on T+L’s World Best Awards for New York City hotels, it’s no secret that The William Vale is one of our readers’ favorite hotels in all of the Big Apple. But apart from its uber-chic rooms (and even chicer crowd), this Williamsburg spot also has some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline. And, with every room equipped with a balcony, it’s that much easier to survey the happenings down below in the bustling neighborhood or take amazing panoramic shots of Manhattan from across the river. We also love the views and the vibe on the 22nd floor at rooftop bar Westlight; go during sunset.

Final Verdict

There is not just one good view from a hotel room in New York City; part of the beauty of this city is that the landscape can change seemingly every block. But for the best city skyline and Central Park vantage points, our winner is the Mandarin Oriental, New York. Not only are these rooms some of the highest in NYC, but the hotel itself is known for its sumptuous and comfortable decor and attentive service.

Know Before You Go

  • Pricing for New York City hotels is quite dependent on the time of year. You will pay a hefty premium between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, for example, but prices will drop dramatically for January and February. Of course, those are the coldest months of the year, so make sure to bring plenty of layers.
  • Beware of traversing crowded areas like Midtown Manhattan by taxi during rush hour; gridlock is almost a given. New York is a city meant to be explored by foot, the easiest way to get from point A to point B is often either by walking or by subway. Plus, it allows you to discover cafes and boutiques you never would have stumbled upon otherwise (this is especially true in many downtown neighborhoods, with their charming, winding streets).
  • Check out our New York City travel guide for even more ideas.

How We Chose These Hotels

To choose the New York City hotels with the best views, we started with a list of over two dozen of the city’s premier properties. We combed through guest reviews, visited hotels to check out the views for ourselves, and queried our network of travel advisors, travel editors, and the most pickiest of our frequent-traveling friends. In addition to the views themselves, we also took into account metrics like the hotel’s location, its reputation, the number of amenities available (like an on-site spa or gym), and its interior design and architecture. Our choices, therefore, not only provide postcard-perfect views but are hotels we would gladly recommend based on their other stellar features.
