Job Description:

Varian M edical Systems is looking for an Electrical Systems Engineer to join our interventional oncology (IO) development team. The individual would contribute by defining electrical components for cyro and microwave ablation systems, and work with outside vendors to source these components. The ideal candidate would be a self-driven individual with a passion for electronics and a desire to work on a product that changes people s lives.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

* Design and develop next generation cryo and microwave cablation system console and disposables (CryoProbes, TempProbes, etc.) and develop improvements and modifications to current products

* Schematic design, PCB layout, interfacing to sensors and actuators, part selection and ordering, reviewing of drawings, software programming and validation, and hardware testing

* Assist in new product development projects and cost-reduction design activities

* Co-lead (with mechanical and software team members) project development from electronic perspective

* Define detailed requirements for electrical modules and components

* Find and work with vendors capable of sourcing both off-the-shelf and custom electrical components

* Actively participate in the subsystem integration process collaborating with other electrical, software and mechanical team members

* Write technical documentation including requirements, component descriptions, and test methods

* Create and maintain FDA compliant Design History Files (DHF)

* Execute process improvements as they relate to quality system compliance with FDA 510(K), QSR and ISO 13485

* Participate in complaint investigations, and failure analysis of products

* Provide root cause analysis support and drive the implementation of corrective action for process-related issues

* Performs other duties as assigned or required

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

* Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

* 4+ years of experience with schematic design and PCB layout

* Preferred familiarity with the medical device electrical safety & EMC requirements (IEC60601-1), regulatory (FDA & MDD) and Quality (QSR & ISO 13485) issues or similarly regulated industry

* Experience working within a company s Quality System is preferred

* Experience with software programming, design specifications & requirements and verification & validation

* Experience with electromechnical and mechanical medical devices is preferred.

* Experience working with outside vendors to obtain customized electrical components

* Able to demonstrate a good understanding of electrical fundamentals

* Able to define and develop test procedures and to perform design verification

* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

* Strong communication skills, both oral and written
