The small number of residents have held tightly to a more traditional way of life, so take a relaxing day trip and see Singapore how it used to be decades ago. For the opposite experience, take the lift up to the top of the Marina Bay Sands and dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant or swim in the world’s largest infinity pool.
Merlion Park, overlooking Marina Bay, is a promenade that hosts the famous 9m high statue of the Merlion – a half fish, half lion carving that is a symbol of Singapore, melding its fishing village roots with the Malay name Singapura, which means Lion City. Keep walking and you’ll find open air food courts, theatres, museums and stunning views across the skyline.
