Love it or hate it, American Pie is arguably one of the most successful comedy franchises of all time.

However, it turns out Seann William Scott, who plays Steve Stifler in the films, didn’t get too much of a share from his role in the opening film of the series, getting paid extremely low for his part.

In a nutshell

Upon its release back in 1999, the comedy of age comedy was a box office sensation, raking in $235 million for a cost of just $11 million. Despite the large amount the flick made at the box office, the Stifmeister got just $8,000 for his role.

Things worked out for Scott though, as American Pie spawned three sequels American Pie 2, American Wedding, and American Reunion, as well as a number of spin-offs, which earned the actor a total of $5 million.

What has been said?

Speaking to Rick Eisen on his show, Scott said: “That was a lot of money at the time for me,” Scott said when asked if he really made so little money on the film.

“Yeah, because afterward, I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5,000, or maybe $6,000. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby’.

“I don’t know what happened to the other $2k, because then I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churros guy. So maybe it was even less than $8,000.”

“It was before it came out. So I shot the movie, we’re waiting for it to come out, I got the Thunderbird, maybe I spent all of it on the Thunderbird, maybe it was like the entire $8,000 or $7,000, and then I had this other job and then I worked at the LA Zoo, waiting for the movie to come out.”
