S1000rr race car project

Just a few things that spring to mind.I suggest you speak to a few people.Bear in mind these are my thoughts-they may not be gospel!

The biggest problem I can see is,if you use the BMW ecu and the adaptive values need to be set(which they will if you do not have the original)you will need to take the car to a BMW bike dealer for them to reflash the ecu.

As you do not have an ecu I suggest you buy a loom and get the HP kit ecu and software, although you may have to buy a full akrapovic system with it.Apparently,it is possible to buy the HP kit without exhaust, though officially you can’t.It depends on the dealer.Bear in mind, though, this will still need to be activated by a dealer,on the car.

I suggest you find a good dealer(preferably one with racing connections e.g Park Lane,Clarkes etc)and have a chat with them explaining what you are doing.

A stand alone ecu is probably the least aggro as you can use which sensors you want and treat it like most modern engines. However, whether you could use the variable inlets, knock sensors etc.I know not. Also bear in mind,as standard, the BMW ecu is mapped to reduce power in the lower gears(although this can be altered on the HP ecu).

If you go the aftermarket ecu route then Specialist Components in Norfolk(01953 859785)have used their ecu on some unusual things!.It may be worth chatting with them.
I would imagine an original loom would still be useful,if only for the connectors. If you go with the BMW ecu I would get the loom with the DTC/ABS(better availability)-why not attempt to have traction control too!(Obviously,as is,it would only work on two wheels and you would need sensors and rings and tyre sizes may present a problem)

Hope that’s given you something to think about.
