Rush Season 2 Updates: Is The Show Returning?
Here’s an update on the status of the second season of U.S. TV series Rush. Premiering on USA Network back in summer 2014, Rush is a medical drama that stars a pre-Lucifer Tom Ellis as its titular character – Dr. William Rush. After the hard-partying, drug and booze abusing Dr. Rush is dismissed from his job at a Los Angeles hospital he starts providing a no-questions-asked concierge service to wealthy and wayward clients who want to keep their medical woes hush-hush. Larenz Tate (Power), Sarah Habel and Rick Gonzalez also star as Rush’s best doctor pal Alex, personal assistant Eve and drug dealer Manny, respectively.
The ten-episode first season of Rush finished its run in September 2014. Over the course of the show’s freshman season, Dr. Rush did some pretty dodgy things but was almost on the path to redemption after reconnecting with his old flame Sarah (Supergirl’s Odette Annable). By the season finale, however, Rush’s past discretions came back to haunt him when he found out he’d knocked up his estranged dad’s much younger trophy wife Corrine, played by Titans’ Rachel Nichols.

The Rush season finale ended with the eponymous doctor breaking up with Sarah, doing a load of cocaine and finding himself surrounded by police and squad cars. Unfortunately, viewers hoping to see those plotlines resolved in Rush season 2 will be disappointed – here’s why.
USA Network Cancelled Rush In 2014
Just a couple of weeks after the season 1 finale of Rush aired, news broke in early October 2014 that USA Network had decided to cancel the show after just ten episodes. It wasn’t too surprising as Rush didn’t exactly endear the critics with some feeling the bad boy physician trope had been overdone with others shows like House while others compared it unfavorably to USA Network’s similarly plotted – albeit lighter-hearted – medical drama Royal Pains. Rush never really found an audience either, with relatively weak ratings throughout its ten-episode run.
Rush Season 2 Isn’t Happening
Despite the season finale of Rush leaving a whole load of plot threads hanging, a second season of the medical drama isn’t going to happen – especially now over five years after the show was cancelled.
That said, USA Network is currently somewhat lacking in the medical drama department following the end of Royal Pains after eight seasons and the cancellation of Complications, which like Rush aired for just one season. However, given the lukewarm reception Rush got, a revival of the series really doesn’t seem likely.
