Platform Nine and Three-Quarters was a magically-concealed platform of King’s Cross Station. The platform was for students needing to board the Hogwarts Express to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry every year and where they travelled for their school holidays. The train left for school every 1 September by 11am. It appeared throughout the Harry Potter books.

History

Invention

The platform was found through a wall in the middle of platform 9 and platform 10. The station had a sign saying “Platform Nine and Three-Quarters” and at least every 1 September had another sign saying “Hogwarts Express, 11 o’clock. In place of the ticket-box on the other side of the wall that students have to run through in King’s Cross, was an iron archway and the steam train made smoke drift over the head of those on the platform.[1]

September 1991

In September 1991, Harry Potter arrived at the platform for the first time. When he mentioned the location to Vernon and Petunia Dursley, they thought he was crazy because King’s Cross Station had no such platform in the Muggle world. When they dropped him off at the station, they drove away and laughed at him out the car window. He eventually found the platform thanks to the help of the Weasley family. Neville Longbottom lost Trevor and Lee Jordan had a spider in a box he was making everyone look at. Fred and George Weasley helped Harry put suitcases on the train and told Molly Weasley they knew who he was. Everyone boarded the train by 11am.[1]
