and teaching activities. Lanternfish phonics generally follows a synthetic phonics progression
with an emphasis on phoneme-grapheme correspondences (as opposed to onset-rime phonics). One order that these unit can be taught is as follows:
initial consonants –> final cononsants –> CVC words –> Consonant Digraphs (the words in this unit follow a
CVC pattern) –> Long Vowel Bossy E –> Vowel Digraphs –> Consonant Blends. However, other orders are certainly possible. There are other resources
listed here as well that emphasize sight words, decoding skills, and early reading skills.
