Monsters at Work Season 2: Plot, Cast, and Everything Else We Know
Monsters at Work made its debut on Disney Plus in July 2021. The series belongs to the Monsters Inc. franchise and came to screens twenty years after the release of the movie. However, the film has always remained a part of the industry and the consciousness of fans. A film titled Monsters University, a prequel to the original movie, was released by Pixar in 2012. The prequel traced the relationship between Mike and Sulley back to their college days. The movie became a box office hit and fan favorite.
Given this, fans were justifiably over the moon when a series based on the same characters were announced. Season one of Monsters at Work picked up directly after the events of Monsters Inc. and focused on the company’s transition from scare to laugh power. It followed the storyline of Tylor Tuskmon, a new graduate from Monsters University. Similarly to the films released before it, the series quickly became a favorite of fans, and many were itching for a second season of the show.

Luckily Monsters at Work season two was officially announced in June 2022, although fans will have to wait some time before they journey back into Monstropolis. Until then, here’s all we know about season two!
Monsters at Work Season 2: The Plot
The first season saw Tylor’s dream of becoming a Jokester finally come true and ends on the note of Tylor being a hero. With the company’s aim to move into laugh power from scare power, Tylor and the MIFT crew come together to invent a special canister that can store enough laugh energy to power the company. Without them, the company may have had to close down. The ending of the season soundly set up the show to move into a new chapter for the company and many of the characters.

Given this, it’s highly probable that season two will center on the narratives of Mike, Sulley, and Tylor as they go about the new post-transition operations of the company. Despite the plot details for season two being kept under wraps for now, fans can expect the producers to spin a few exciting tales given the finale of season one. The ending saw Tylor being given a new assistant while Boo was brought back into the fold. With fans excited to see a narrative centered on how Tylor handles the challenges coming his way as a new Jokester, this would be a plausible line for season two to follow.
Fans also remain especially hopeful for Boo’s return and the rest of the team to meet the character. However, unfortunately, this might not become a reality. Despite claims regarding Boo not making an appearance in the series, the hopes of fans were rekindled due to the ending of season one, where Sulley opens a door leading to Boo. Prior to season one of the series, executive producer Bobs Gannaway claimed at a press conference that Boo would not be included in the Monsters at Work series. Referring to a conversation between Monsters Inc. director Pete Docter and himself, Gannaway said:
“Just to be very clear, Boo does not make an appearance in the series. I’ll kinda leave it at that. Pete Docter and I had a nice discussion about Boo and we both agreed, the relationship between Boo and Sulley is so precious, and so wonderful, that we want to leave it to the world to have their own interpretation of how that relationship continued, and not define it. That’s very important to Pete, and also us.”

Many of the cast from season one of the series is likely to return to voice the characters. As such, Billy Crystal could return to voice Mike Wazowski, while John Goodman voices James P. “Sulley” Sullivan. Moreover, voices will also likely include Ben Feldman as Tylor Tuskmon, Mindy Kaling as Val Little, Henry Winkler as Fritz, Lucas Neff as Duncan, Bonnie Hunt as Ms. Flint, and Alanna Ubach as Katherine.
Ben Feldman, who was a newcomer to the series in season one, has admired the premise of Monsters at Work due to the fact that he can connect with it as a father. Talking about the show to Romper, Feldman spoke about what makes him love Monsters at Work:
“It’s all about being funny. The energy or the sort of currency of the entire show is laughs rather than scares. I love that as a dad because whenever I watch any cartoons with any element of scariness my kids run away and hide. So this will be a fun thing that I get to watch with my kids.”

Monsters at Work season two will be getting a new showrunner. While Bobs Gannaway developed and executive produced season one of the series, Gannaway won’t be making a return for season two. Instead, season two will be executive produced by Emmy Award-winning director Kevin Deters.
Having joined Disney Animation Studios in 1996, Deters is renowned for his work as a story artist and director. A few noteworthy titles under Deters’ belt include films such as Mulan, Tarzan, and Lilo & Stitch.

The teaser trailer confirming the release of a second season of Monsters at Work was released in June 2022. While the official trailer confirmed that the season would be released in 2023, no exact release date has been provided.
