IELTS Speaking Function 06 – Expressing a Preference in English

IELTS Speaking Function Eight

Expressing a Preference

Start to express your preference in English with these basic English phrases:

    I prefer A
    I like B
    I prefer C to D
    I like E more than F

If you only have a slight preference (a small preference) you can use more advanced phrases such as these:

I prefer A to B, but not by much
    I have a slight preference for C
    I like D a little more than D

Or if you have a big preference, try these phrases:

    I prefer E by a big margin
    I have a big preference for F
    I like G much more than H

You can use any of the English expressions above with
phrases that express an opinion and the IELTS examiner will consider you quite an advanced speaker.
