Recently, I have seen an increased interest in growing fruits and berries in the garden.  And, I get more questions from gardeners thinking about trying their hand at growing apples.

Here are some answers to the most common questions:

Are semi-dwarf apples okay for a small yard?

The answer is yes. Semi-Dwarf Trees will reach 12 to 15 feet high and wide.

What apple trees should I plant if my yard is very small?

If you are looking for an apple that would take up even less space, take a look at the ‘Urban Apples’.  These are upright columnar growing, getting 3-4 feet wide and maybe 8-10 feet or so tall.  Urban Apples is a high-yielding tree that is perfect for smaller, narrow gardens or even containers. The great news their smaller size makes them easier to maintain.

Will they require maintenance?

Yes, growing apples will require regular maintenance.  But the results can be very tasty.
