Five Nights At Freddy’s Fans Don’t Like The Movie’s “Goofy” Glowing Eyes

Five Nights at Freddy’s fans think that the movie giving the animatronics glowing red eyes and more expressive faces is too “goofy” and that it takes away from the original game’s creepiness.

Earlier this month, an unfinished version of the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie teaser leaked online, giving us a very blurry first glimpse at the movie in action. As pointed out by series creator Scott Cawthon, however, it seemed that many fans weren’t discussing their thoughts on the leaked version of the trailer and were instead waiting for the official release – as of yesterday, that time has come and the full teaser has been shared, which means that Five Nights fans are sharing their thoughts on it.

Although overall impressions of the trailer seem to be positive, one of the most common opinions to come from the trailer is to do with the new design of the animatronics – specifically the glowing red eyes that are unique to the film. In the trailer, we see that the animatronics’ eyes glow red when they’re active at night, which seems like a bit of an on-the-nose way to say that they’re acting evil.

That seems to be the prevailing train of thought within the Five Nights at Freddy’s community. Over on the game’s subreddit, one of the most popular threads is one that asks fans what they think of the glowing red eyes specifically, and the consensus is pretty negative. The top-rated comment comes from Redditor Bioshocker101, who calls them “goofy” and takes away from the creepiness factor. They also point out that the facial expressions, specifically the menacing squint that can be seen at the end of the trailer, makes them look less deadpan and again makes them less creepy.

Another top comment point out that the first game’s use of glowing eyes (which you see if you let the timer run down to zero) is much scarier and that it currently looks like the Lost Children have been playing “Pass the blunt”. The most positive takes point out that it’s likely to make it clear to new viewers that the animatronics are evil, but most still think that it’s “lame as fuck”, “forced”, and “silly”.

In case you weren’t convinced that the fanbase isn’t particularly fond of these glowing red eyes, it’s not even been 24 hours since the trailer dropped and someone has already made an edit of the poster to remove the red eyes and make the animatronics look like their old self. The Redditor, foreskinfarter, noted that it was only a quick edit, but the comments underneath the post still agree that it looks a lot better.
