FB Messenger app will no longer be available on Apple Watch?

Facebook Messenger has been a popular messaging app for quite some time, allowing users to easily communicate with their friends and family.

FB Messenger app will no longer be available on Apple Watch

However, on May 31, 2023, Facebook will officially discontinue support for its Messenger app on the Apple Watch (1,2,3,4,5,6).

Apple Watch users received a pop-up message when they opened the FB Messenger app informing them of the change.

While users will still get notified when they receive a message on Messenger, they will no longer be able to use the app to read or reply to messages on their Apple Watch.

This decision has been met with disappointment in the Apple Watch community, as users relied on the Messenger app for quick communication on their wrists.

For some, the ability to read and reply to messages on their Apple Watch was a key feature that made the device worthwhile.

Why are you guys no longer supporting Apple Watch for messenger? Responding on the watch is so dang convenient. @messenger

One user pointed out that Facebook used to have special integration with the Apple Watch that allowed users to make posts and upload photos directly without having to open the app.

This integration meant that users didn’t need to open the app as much, which in turn led to less exposure to ads. As a result, Facebook removed the integration.

So it’s speculated that a similar logic may be at play with Messenger on the Apple Watch.

This is it. I also remember back in the day when Facebook had special integration so that you could make posts and upload photos directly without having to open the app. Obviously this meant people didn’t need to open the app as much, and that meant less ads, so they removed it.

Whatever the reason, some Apple Watch users are unhappy with this change and are hoping that Facebook will reconsider this decision or offer an alternative solution.

It remains to be seen whether other messaging apps will step in to fill the void left by Messenger’s departure.

That said, we’ll keep tabs on this topic and update the article to reflect noteworthy information.
