End of the Road 2 – will there be a sequel to End of the Road (2022)?

This article discusses whether there will be an End of the Road 2, a sequel to the Netflix film End of the Road (2022), and will contain spoilers.

Millicent Shelton’s End of the Road is currently available to stream on Netflix, and it stars Queen Latifah and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. The story follows Queen Latifah as a nurse who is forced to move her family to Texas to start a new life. They are her brother, Ludacris, and her two kids, played by Mychala Lee and Shaun Dixon. In their car adventure through the South West of the U.S., they get mixed up in a drug money problem with a local crime lord, after Ludacris’ character steals a bag with much-needed cash from a room where a murder has just been committed — and we know that where there is money missing, there is someone looking for it.

The movie plays exactly like any that used to be on TV on a Saturday afternoon, right after lunch, ten years ago, at least where I live. It’s a plot that is far from new and it doesn’t really take big swings, though there are some impressively tense sequences and some hit-or-miss social commentary (it gets progressively more on the nose as the movie progresses). However, it has the possibility to entertain some of the Netflix audience looking for a forgettable film to put on while they are cooking lunch or passing the time. So, could there be a sequel to End of the Road?

End of the Road sequel potential release date

No sequel has been officially announced, but if they were to move forward with it, they could set it up in less than a year and a half — giving six months to the writing process, two months for pre-production, and a couple of months for filming, End of the Road 2 could be out on Netflix as soon as the first quarter of 2024. That is, of course, if they are doing it.

End of the Road

sequel cast – who might be in it?

Obviously, our four main characters should be back — Queen Latifah as Brenda, Ludacris as Reggie, Mychala Lee as Kelly, and Shaun Dixon as Cam. There’s room to write Reggie out if Ludacris is too expensive to get, or too busy with Fast & Furious 73. If that were the case, the void of the male co-lead could potentially be filled in by Brenda’s new love interest. Also, as a bit of a preview of my pitch for the sequel available in the next segment, there’s a possibility for some of the Police officers to come back.

sequel plot: what could End of the Road 2 be about?

End of the Road has the perfect ending for Netflix executives to go “yeah, let’s do another one”, and it wouldn’t feel forced, but it also can be seen as a “happily ever after” wrap-up of the story. If they were to move forward with another movie, though, the McGuffin is right there — as I alluded to at the beginning, where there is money missing, there is someone looking for it.

The obvious plotline is that Mr. Cross was actually working for someone else, and now a higher-up member of a drug cartel is looking for their missing money. They send two assassins after our family, but Queen Latifah’s Brenda has now spent the majority of it on buying back their house. This writes itself, because there are actually more people looking for the money — the Police have now learned about Beau Bridges’ side job, and they have learned (somehow) that a bag of money is missing. They are looking for Brenda and the family too. And there’s even more, because now another branch of the Government, the IRS, is also interested to know how a seemingly broke family was able to buy back their house in L.A. At the end, the Police find out about the cartel going after the family, they take them down and decide to look the other way on the money, realizing that the family has lived through a lot.
