When and where you had the idea?

An idea can change a life. This is true in certain cases as it was in mine. Today I am going to talk about an idea that I had which improved the lives of the students who lived in the hostel of my college. Due to the pandemic, the college gymnasium was shut down. Every child was isolated in single rooms until later they were asked to vacate the hostel altogether. My group of friends and I were gym freaks.

What was your idea?

In such a scenario, we didn’t know what to do as we had no access to the equipment or each other. Since there was a strict notice that was passed that students should sternly follow social distancing among each other. We were quarantined inside the college campus. Looking outside my window, I noticed a lot of cement that was getting wasted and had been lying there since all the workers left for their hometowns.

Who told you about the idea?

I looked around to find some pipe that could hold the weight of the cement and I easily found it on the campus itself. Before doing this Do-It-Yourself activity, I took permission from the college authority if I may use their concrete to which they responded positively. I added some silicon glue in the cement solution so that it all held together. Lastly, I let it dry and the result was amazing. I had two dumbbells of 10kg each.

Explain why you thought your idea would make any difference?

I conveyed the same ideas to my friends on our hostel Whatsapp group and everyone tried the same. Over time, we all had access to a mini gym inside our quarantine room. Each one of us was happy to retain the body shape which we had been working so hard on as we aimed to participate in the bodybuilding competition. Due to the pandemic, it was put on hold, but we were feeling extremely dejected as we thought our years of hard work would go in vain. My little technique helped us a lot and I still feel proud of my idea.

When and where you had the idea?

Ideas and humans have been inseparable. Everything we see around is an implementation of someone’s idea. Today I am going to talk about an idea that popped into my mind which I think helped a lot of my college mates. It was when I was in my final year of B.Tech and was stressing over how I would prepare for the interview. As without cracking it, I couldn’t have gotten placed with good company.

What was your idea?

My college did not have a placement cell. I had to use my contacts and surf the internet to look for job vacancies. Like me, many students too were feeling butterflies in their stomachs.

I contacted my seniors and was taking some ideas about what kind of questions I should be expecting in the interview and how to answer them.

Who told you about the idea?

Just then I realised, why not share the same with every other student who was spending sleepless nights preparing for the interview. I conveyed the same idea to the higher authorities and requested them if they too can bring working professionals. These were from reputed institutions by using their contact so that our whole batch could get some insights about the recruitment process.

Explain why you thought your idea would make any difference?

My professors were very supportive and we all organised a 3-day event where mostly seniors were placed with good companies. They shared their experience and knowledge about interviews. After the event was over, everyone came to thank me personally as they felt more confident and could finally relax a little. I also felt the same. Today I am working with Microsoft and many of my batchmates are also placed with top MNCs. I feel happy that the little idea that I had helped so many of us.

When and where you had the idea?

Ideas change the normal course of action within a twinkle of an eye. Whether it is the invention of the mobile phone or the aeroplane, everything was first an idea in someone’s brain. Ideas always improve the current situation. Today I am going to share one such idea that I had that enhanced my career prospects. It was when I was working as a teacher for an NGO.

What was your idea?

Teaching was becoming difficult as students did not have books with them. Buying every child a book would not have been a cost-effective technique. Therefore, I talked to the management and requested them to add a projector to the class so that I may prepare a PowerPoin. t The presentation with all the essential details of the books in the slides.

Who told you about the idea?

They were happy to hear my idea as that would also open doors to a smart class for students. Within three days, a projector was put up in the class and children were very excited to learn a new manner. I taught them how to write down important points from the slides so that they could revise them later at home and not forget the next morning. They listened to me and followed my advice. Since now I had access to multimedia, I also started incorporating games that could be played with students. They started taking delight in my class.

Explain why you thought your idea would make any difference?

Other teachers also tried to make use of the projector and enrich their teaching style. I was happy that I could help these young creative minds to learn and the faculty in imparting holistic education. A job of a teacher is to not just sit and preach texts, rather plan, strategize lessons in such a manner that all-around development of the child can take place. This includes focusing on developing their cognition, affective and psychomotor domain. I feel so elated when I hear those students have now grown up and are continuing their education just because my little effort could get them interested in their studies in the first place.
