Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 5/12: The Browns Schedule is Out! Did you hear?
Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
The schedule is out, and the Browns rookie mini-camp is starting. There is an NFL “off” season, but it hasn’t started yet and is very brief. After this weekend’s rookie camp, we will get a few down days until the press is allowed into a day of off-season training activities on May 24th.
As you know, none of that will slow things down on the OBR, where my personal schedule is as packed as it is in-season, if not more so. We have a lot we’re trying to get done between now and the regular season kickoff on September 10th.
Yesterday, however, simultaneously showed us the best and worst of what passes for local football coverage in 2023. Many outlets pumped out mostly identical stories describing the 2023 schedule in the quest for page views. Our offer to handle this for everyone was once again ignored, creating a lot of repetitive work, but I understand why 2,304 Browns-related websites felt like they needed their own articles.
Other outlets blessed by larger staffs spewed various overlapping articles, trying to get as many views on ads as possible. Here, we broke a couple of signings thanks to Brad Stainbrook and focused more on a live broadcast analyzing the schedule. You can find a replay of this below.
The OBR’s content strategy was built around our founding principle: “Our leader is an idiot, so let’s do what we think is fun.” We enjoy doing these broadcasts, people seem to enjoy them, and we figured that the world could go without another “Schedule Takeaways” article when the web is already littered with them if you like that sort of thing. I hope you get a chance to check out the video.
We’ll do further schedule analysis in the days ahead and will be talking about it on the forums. Still, with it so well covered, we will continue to focus on our position-by-position breakdown of the team as we look at quarterbacks this week and move on to running backs next week.
Personally, I’m juggling a series of projects this off-season, trying to pen a brief history of the OBR, working on a simple app that I’m talking to folks about in the Insider Discussion forum, and a whole bunch of really boring internal stuff like trying to figure out what we should (Greenbrier) be spending (Greenbrier) money on this year, such as traveling to Greenbrier as the Browns expensively open camp.
Whatever I’m able to get done, I’ll continue waking up early, linking whatever I can, and bloviating at you each morning throughout the Summer, complaining frequently about the lack of articles to riff on. Gird thy loins.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
