Chica is a major antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Chica is an animatronic chicken and children’s entertainer housed at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, alongside Freddy Fazbear and Bonnie. She is the backup singer in Freddy’s band, positioned at the left side of the stage. Secretly, Chica and the other animatronics are haunted by children murdered by a man named William Afton. She and the others are now seeking revenge against their killer by attacking any adults in the pizzeria after-hours in blind rage.

She was the backup singer when the first Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza was opened in 1983.[1] In 1987, she and the original animatronics had all fallen into severe disrepair and Chica was replaced by her newer counterpart for the “improved” Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, Toy Chica.[2] After the pizzeria’s closing, as well as the Toy Animatronics being scrapped, she and the original animatronics were refurbished for the new pizzeria,[3] as of the events of the first game. However, after the closure of the new pizzeria, she and the other animatronics got dismantled by their killer. Her soul, along with the others, was presumably set free, as evidenced by the good ending.

Physical Appearance

Chica can often be found in the kitchen in various games, and generally approaches players from the right. Chica was confirmed to be possessed by Susie in the Fazbear Frights story “Coming Home.””

Chica is a bright yellow animatronic chicken with a spherically-shaped head, orange beak, magenta eyes, and black eyebrows. On the top of her head are three “tufts” of feathers. She has two talons from each of her orange feet. She wears a white bib that reads “LET’S EAT!!!” in yellow bubble letters, outlined in purple, with the bib flecked with tricolored triangles in patterns of three, and what appear to be tiny stylized pizza slices.

Like all of the other animatronics at Freddy’s, she has an out-of-place set of blocky teeth sticking up from her lower beak. Her endoskeleton teeth can also be seen in the back of her mouth, though these are only clearly visible in certain angles.

In Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted, Chica’s design remains nearly identical, and is mostly unchanged. In Five Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery, Chica’s design remains the same as her original; however, for realism purposes, her design receives specular reflection.

Mr. Cupcake

Mr. Cupcake is an object-like character from a tray carried by Chica with her left hand. It has pink frosting with two large yellow eyes, a yellow-striped birthday candle with a vinyl candle-light, buck teeth, no wrapper, and, like other animatronics (except Foxy and Golden Freddy), has black eyelids.

First appearing in the first game, the Cupcake makes numerous appearances in later games and rarely jumpscares. The only occurrences of its jumpscares can be seen in Help Wanted and that of the cupcake’s nightmare counterpart in Five Nights at Freddy’s 4.

Withered

As her older, withered form, Withered Chica, she, along with the four other older animatronics, have all fallen into severe disrepair. She is replaced by her newer counterpart (Toy Chica) for the “improved” Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza due to an attempted retrofit and subsequent abandonment of the older model in favor of Toy Chica, according to Phone Guy on Night 2.[4] For a start, the feminine features have been toned down, and she appears more androgynous as a result, to contrast her more with Toy Chica. Her body seems to have minimal changes. Her beak has a jaw similar to the ones Withered Bonnie and Withered Freddy have, which appear to be completely unhinged. Her beak is also more pointed, like that of an actual chicken, and she has even more teeth on her upper and lower beak. The infamous second set of teeth from the animatronic endoskeleton is clearly visible and covered in blood. She has two stumps where her hands used to be, with long wires pouring forth.

In Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted, Withered Chica’s design is slightly altered. The most noticeable changes are that she has a darker shade of yellow, her head structure is majorly different, and, when closely examining her model, bloodstains are covering her endoskeleton jaw.

Personality

Based on the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Theme Song, Chica is a pushy, gluttonous but lovable singing animatronic bot who has love for food, especially pizza. The Pizza Party level in Night Terrors also demonstrates this by actively eating pizza from a room that appears to be the kitchen, and, in the first game, one can hear clanging sounds emanating from the kitchen. During both occasions, she was distracted from her goal of killing the player, implying that her gluttony can distract her at times. According to HandUnit’s instructions in “Parts and Service: Chica”, she still maintains her gluttonous tendencies, as she is covered in pizza.[5]

Chica also seems to be very pushy and determined, as, when she gets to the night guard’s door, she will stay there for long periods of time, far longer than Bonnie would.

As Withered Chica, in Ultimate Custom Night, she seems to be a contemptuous survivor, feeling aware of the fact that she is damaged. Her voice has a lot of ominous buzzing and fan-like noises in the background, which Scott Cawthon likened to a train rapidly approaching to “run you over.” One of her voice lines heavily imply that she was the first murdered victim from The Missing Children Incident.

According to the Five Nights at Freddy’s (How-to-Draw Book) book, Chica is never without at least some variation of Mr. Cupcake, implying that Withered Chica may have had a variation on Mr. Cupcake at some point, but may have been removed, for reasons that ought to be obvious. This also shows that Chica has a fondness for cupcakes in general.

Functionality

In Help Wanted, she has technology similar to the Funtime animatronics, although her mechanical inside parts are not seen, and she has a beak that can pop open immediately at the push of two buttons.
