Best Food In Takashimaya – eHeartland
Angus Steak House is a restaurant on the fourth level of Takashimaya in Ngee Ann City, next to the department store’s children’s area. We must have gone past this restaurant countless times while shopping at Takashimaya over the years, but we had never entered it… until today.
The restaurant is large, brilliantly lighted, and simply furnished. We were there for supper on a Saturday, and it was extremely busy. It is best to make a reservation and request a window seat with a view of Orchard Road at the same time. There is an open-concept kitchen where you can see the cooks at work. The steaks at Angus Steak House are undoubtedly the stars of the menu, but they also provide a vast and diversified selection of other dishes. Here are a few pages from their supper menu at random. As you can see, it caters to all budgets, with items ranging from $21 pasta to $189 wagyu steaks.
A 150g tenderloin ($54) and a 300g ribeye ($71) were ordered. We requested for them to be cooked medium-well because we don’t like pinkish meats. We also paid an additional $12 apiece to add an appetizer, soup, bread, salad, and dessert to round off the meal.
The $12 bonus included a bread roll and butter, a tasty fried fish appetizer, a dish of salad with crisp vegetables, a huge quantity of mushroom soup, and a dessert that we will show you at the conclusion of this piece. Even though each item was small in size, it all adds up. So, if you want to have the supplement (which we strongly recommend because it is a fantastic value for $12), keep that in mind while selecting the amount of steak. We were already very stuffed by the time we finished the preceding dishes and received our steak.
The steaks were presented on platters that were boiling hot. The tenderloin was about 1.5 cm thick, while the ribeye was around 2 cm thick. They tasted identical, but the ribeye had a bit more flavor. The 150g tenderloin proved to be a good size for a little diner. The 300g ribeye turned out to be doable and not as big as we had anticipated. It’s not the most complex-tasting steak, but it’s absolutely fine. We think this is pretty affordable for a five-course steak meal that averaged around $85 per person in the heart of Singapore’s Orchard Road. If you pay with a Takashimaya or JCB credit card, you will receive a 5% discount.
Of course, no steak dinner is complete without a bottle of appropriately strong red wine. There is a corkage fee of $20 per bottle at Angus. A corkage-free BYO would have been preferable, but $20 was not a terrible price. We brought a 2005 Don Melchor, a full-bodied red from Chile that went well with the meats.
Dessert options were tiramisu, cheese cake, or a scoop of ice cream. We chose a tiramisu and a cheese cake to round out our steak supper with a sweet and hefty finish.
