Leads the charge in the premium executive class. Its primary appeal is the way it drives, but its engines, standard equipment list and infotainment system are first-rate too. The firm ride on M Sport models is just about the only thing we can grumble about in this near-flawless executive car.

The perky 181bhp 320i is an excellent option if you don’t fancy a diesel or have the option to plug-in very often. Its rev-happy nature sits well with the 3 Series’ sporty character.
