The Apple Watch Series 1 was a second generation of Apple Watch that was released on September 16, 2016, alongside the Apple Watch Series 2 and iPhone 7 at Apple’s annual September event in the Steve Jobs Theater. It replaced the original Apple Watch series (retroactively referred to as “Series 0”), and was succeeded by the Apple Watch Series 3 in 2017.

Features

The Series 1 came in two sizes like previous models: 38mm and 42mm aluminum cases with matching bands for both sizes. It used the same 450-nit OLED Retina display with Force Touch as before; the main difference over the original series was the faster Apple S1P processor.

Released at the same time, the Series 2 included the Apple S2 processor, GPS, waterproofing for swimming workouts, a brighter 1000-nit display, and additional case materials.
