Apple TV 3rd Generation Repair

Background and Identification

Apple announced and released the 3rd generation of the Apple TV in spring 2012. Aside from adding 1080p HD video playback and the new Apple A5 processor, the Apple TV 3rd Generation is largely unchanged from its previous iteration. External dimensions and ports are identical to those in the Apple TV 2nd Generation, along with several internal components.

There was also a silent release of the third generation “Rev A” (model A1469) on January 28, 2013 with some component changes. The Rev A gained support for peer to peer Airplay, allowing iOS devices to mirror to the Apple TV without requiring both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Moreover, the dual-core Apple A5 chip with one deactivated core was replaced with a single core variant of the A5 chip.
