Apple MagSafe Charger Overview

Charging is a snap with the MagSafe Charger from Apple . This magnetic charger snaps to the back of an iPhone 12, 12 Pro, or 12 Pro Max with a satisfying click, delivering up to 15W of charging power with a standard charger, or up to 20W with an optional 20W USB Type-C adapter. Simply plug in the MagSafe Charger’s attached 3.3′ USB Type-C cable. Please note that a power adapter is required and none are included. This charger is also compatible with MagSafe Apple cases and Qi-certified chargers. Wireless charge an iPhone 8, AirPod case, or other compatible devices.

Great for charging your MagSafe capable iPhone

While I love MagSafe on my Macs, I always wondered how useful MagSafe would be on a phone. After using this charger, I have to say that I am a big fan. It is nice being able to just set the phone down. Paired with a stand, this is great for shaving off time dealing with a plug. The magnet is strong and I can basically hold the phone upside down by holding just the cord. I like how the cord is very thin, though I understand that does affect its durability and lifespan.
The reason why I took a star off is because it’s really only useful for charging your MagSafe capable iPhone. Trying to charge AirPods, an Android phone, battery pack, etc. does not seem to work that well, even with a magnetic ring attachment.
At the end of the day, I understand that this was designed with the MagSafe iPhones in mind and for that purpose, it is perfect.

The only down side is I need to remove the silicone cover from my my Otter Box case to get it to work. It will work with the inner plastic cover on. Not a big deal takes five seconds to remove.

Sometimes you have to get the OEM

Many times you can get a cheaper off-brand item and it work just as well as the original. Then sometimes you can’t. This thing charges faster and produces less heat than any off the knock-offs I’ve tried. So I just bought an original so my phone will last longer. Heat is a battery’s worse enemy.
