American Girl Doll

Last week we looked at pictures from a 1997 American Girl/Pleasant Company Catalog I found featuring the American Girl of Today dolls. This week the throwback fun continues with “The American Girls Collection” historical dolls! At this time, there were only five dolls: Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, and Molly. Since the catalog was big, each doll was shown as “full-size” in their first photo. Above is beautiful Felicity in her signature meet dress. 🙂

They each got four more pages full of lovely outfits and accessories from their books. Felicity’s bed is awesome!

Next is Kirsten, look at how blue her eyes are in this photo!! The historical dolls were $82, like the Girl of Today ones.

Her school bench is made from a log, how interesting! And, I love her little doll too.

Kirsten’s original collection was very unique and portrayed her culture and time period well.

Pretty Addy was the newest doll in the collection.

All of the school items for the historicals was amazing. Pleasant Company (American Girl) had many crafts/activities too. Above in Addy’s collection there was a needlework kit, where you could sew the embroidery on Addy’s apron.

Addy’s nightgown was super cute! And, her hair…gorgeous.

Samantha is next, ah…her outfit is so classic!

I wish they still sold that school desk!! In the middle of this page was a little pamphlet that has other small accessories and things you could buy, also a promotion about their doll hospital. The card in front of that is a testimonial from a customer which states, “In this disposable day and age, I, as a parent and customer, am so grateful for a company that dares and cares enough to make products for girls that can last them a lifetime.” 🙂

On the opposite page was Samantha’s Christmas Dress and accessories. I love all of her nighttime accessories too.

Here’s a quick peek at the pamphlet, the first page has a doll care supplies.

The following page has doll accessories and clothes patterns. The travel set with Samantha in the basket is adorable!

On this page is stationary sets, postcards, and trading card sets. I actually have some of the trading cards that they continued to make years later, they were a lot of fun! On the bottom of the page it talks about “American Girls Savings Game” which was FREE. It says: “Save for something special with this fun Savings Game. Learn to draw up a savings plan, set savings goals, and more. Plus there’s a sticker puzzle to assemble as you reach your goals.” That’s awesome they promoted saving money!

And, here’s the form for the Pleasant Company Doll Hospital, with the hospital gown, bracelet, balloon, and certificate included. 🙂

Last but not least, there’s Molly!

I love all the patriotic colors in Molly’s collection. 🙂

On the back of the catalog is Samantha’s Special Edition Outfit and a note from founder/president Pleasant Rowland.

And at the beginning there’s a cute picture of a girl reading with Samantha and saying what the collection is about, I really like how they worded this…

Thanks for looking back again with me! If you have any of the original five dolls or these outfits/accessories, let me know! I’d love to hear from you. 🙂
