American Crime Story is an American true-crime anthology television series created by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski for the television channel FX, with fellow executive producers Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Ryan Murphy, and Brad Simpson.

The series focuses on several unrelated crime events, presenting them as separate seasons, which are each presented as a format of a self-contained miniseries. The first season, subtitled as The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, focuses on the murder case of O. J. Simpson. The second season, subtitled as The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, centers around the murder of Gianni Versace by Andrew Cunanan.

American Crime Story has broadcast for the first time on FX in the United States on February 2, 2016, with its debut episode “From the Ashes of Tragedy” of The People v. O. J. Simpson.

Overview

The first season revolves around the trial placed on the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman by former football player O. J. Simpson, ex-husband of the aforementioned former, the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s history with the city’s black community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.

It is based on Jeffery Toobin’s The Run of His Life: The People v. O. J. Simpson.

Season 2:

The second season, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, focuses on the surprise murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace (played by Édgar Ramírez) by serial killer Andrew Cunanan (played by Darren Criss), a peculiar perspective of the events prior to the murder, and its aftermath of family grief, also focusing on the prejudice against the homosexual community.

It is based on Maureen Orth’s Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U. S. History.

Katrina

The third season, according to authentic sources, will revolve around the events of Hurricane Katrina, the aftermath, and the overbearing decisions of the doctors at Memorial Medical Center, a New Orleans hospital.

It was announced that one of the characters in the season, Dr. Anna Pou, will be portrayed by Sarah Paulson, a participant in the first season.

Formerly, it was planned that the Katrina season would be the second season of American Crime Story, and that The Assassination of Gianni Versace would be the third. However, the plan changed, as The Assassination of Gianni Versace be the second season, and that this begin production in early 2018.

This is based on Sheri Fink’s Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital. Even though the disaster of Hurricane Katrina has technically not been a crime, Ryan Murphy has said that this was “a f***ing crime — a crime against a lot of people who didn’t have a strong voice, and we’re going to treat it as a crime. That’s what this show is all about.”[1]
