A descendant of the Old English Bulldog, the American Bulldog is thought to have appeared as early as the 17th century when working-class European settlers came to America. These settlers brought their working dogs with them to the American South, and these dogs became what we know today as American Bulldogs. American Bulldogs were bred to perform many different tasks as stock dogs, catch dogs, and farm guardians, and today we can see the evidence in their athletic builds.

American Bulldogs are known for their strong muscles and bones, which provide them with impressive agility and athleticism. They are about 20 to 28 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 60 and 120 pounds. In addition, they generally have larger heads and short muzzles. As a short-coated breed, they don’t require much grooming except for occasional baths and brushing.

American Bulldogs make great pets for the family. Not only are they strong and protective, but they are also affectionate and friendly. However, because American Bulldogs are so energetic and athletic, they require vigorous exercise and are at their best when they have an owner who is very active as well.
