About Optical Materials Express

Optica Publishing Group publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed articles in its portfolio of journals, which serve the full breadth of the optics and photonics community.

Optical Materials Express (OMEx), Optica Publishing Group’s open-access, rapid-review journal, primarily emphasizes advances in both conventional and novel optical materials, their properties, theory and modeling, synthesis and fabrication approaches for optics and photonics; how such materials contribute to novel optical behavior; and how they enable new or improved optical devices. The journal covers a full range of topics, including, but not limited to:

  • Artificially structured media, metasurfaces and metamaterials
  • Bio-materials, bio-inspired materials and bio-sensors
  • Computation and first-principle methods
  • Crystalline and dielectric optical materials
  • Doped and fiber optical materials
  • Epitaxial photonic materials
  • Fluorescent and luminescent materials
  • Glass and other amorphous materials
  • Laser materials and processing
  • Materials for integrated optics, optomechanics and quantum optics
  • Nanostructures and nanomaterials
  • Nonlinear, electro-optical and magneto-optical materials
  • Optical materials for photovoltaics and energy applications
  • Organics, polymers and soft matter, liquid crystals
  • Plasmonics and polaritonics
  • Self-assembly and templated assembly for photonic materials
  • Stimuli-responsive, reconfigurable and programmable optical materials
  • Thin films and flexible materials
  • Two-dimensional materials
  • Wide-bandgap optical materials

Optical Materials Express considers original research articles, feature issue contributions, invited reviews, and comments on published articles. The Journal also publishes occasional short (four-page maximum excluding references), timely opinion articles from experts and thought-leaders in the field on current or emerging topic areas that are generating significant interest.
