A Day at School

3.5 stars – A Good Book!

I liked this book. I think it will be a good one to gift to my nieces when they are old enough to start school. The back cover says “More than a picture dictionary, this volume takes word recognition strategies and combines them with warm and engaging storytelling.” I found this to be true, so I’m hopeful that this will be a good, educational book to share with my nieces.

The three children in the story are all in different grades. The youngest was off to day care, the middle child looked to be going to kindergarten, and the oldest to elementary school. The text was simple, and some of the pictures included “captions” to introduce those items to young children.

The story included scenes of the kids getting ready for school, going to school with Mom and Dad, going home from school with their babysitter, and then bath-time, dinnertime, and bedtime.

All in all, I think this is a good book and will make for a great way to introduce young kids to their first days of school. 🙂
