8 game shows coming to ABC and Fox in summer 2022

As scripted television begins to go off-air for the summer on ABC and Fox, game shows are primed to take their place.

This brand of unscripted television is typically the kind the whole family can enjoy though Celebrity Family Feud, like its counterpart Family Feud, can get hilariously inappropriate at times.

The majority of the game shows premiering in May and July are veterans to this network though viewers can anticipate two new game series such as a new version of Don’t Forget the Lyrics and The Final Straw, a game show where the odds are “stacked” against contestants.

If you’re looking to see when your favorite game show returns, here’s the list of series coming to ABC and Fox this summer!

8 summer game shows coming to ABC and Fox in 2022

Holey Moley: Fore-Ever!

Premiere date: Tuesday, May 3 at 8 p.m. ET (ABC)

The Muppets will join this season of Holey Moley, America’s favorite mini-golf competition. The premiere will kick off the game show with eight contestants vying for the golden putter, plaid jacket, and a shot at the finals. Rob Riggle and Joe Tessitore are the show’s commentators, Jeannie Mai is a sideline correspondent along with Stephen Curry. Also, there will be surprise guests!

The Chase

Premiere date: Tuesday, May 3 at 9 p.m. (ABC)

This season, three new Chasers–Brandon Blackwell, Buzzy Cohen, and Victoria Groce–have joined Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer. All five are determined to keep contestants from winning cash prize and each of them are whizzes at what they do.

Blackwell, also known as “The Lightning Bolt,” earned his nickname by being a speed quiz champ. In his own fight against the Chasers, he’d beaten both Brad and James. Cohen aka “The Stunner” has a sharp wit to match his personal style. He’s got the look of a winner and prides himself on his ability to outmatch those who come up against him. Groce has been dubbed “The Queen” and is considered the smartest woman in the world. She’s a dominating force on the team and wears her title with pride.

Sara Haines hosts of The Chase.

Beat Shazam

Premiere date: Wednesday, May 18 at 9 p.m. ET (FOX)

Beat Shazam is back! Like in previous seasons, Jamie Foxx will host as teams compete through a total of four rounds trying to beat one another at identifying songs. The more answers they get correct, the more money they’ll earn. If they can make it to the final round, then they’ll go up against the Shazam app with the hope that they’ll be able to name up to six songs before it. Whoever gets six songs first will win $1 million dollars!

Don’t Forget the Lyrics!

Premiere date: Monday, May 23 at 8 p.m. ET (FOX)

An all-new version of Don’t Forget the Lyrics! is coming this summer! Hosted by Niecy Nash, this game show will put contestants to the test when it comes to their lyrical memory. In order to win, they’ll need to guess the lyrics to ten songs from different genres, decades, and musical artists.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. For an added element of stress, contestants will have to take center stage and sing alongside the house band karaoke-style with the lyrics projected on a screen. Once the music stops and the lyrics disappear, they’ll be left to finish the lyric on their own. Either they’ll sing up a storm or freeze, but if they can make it to the tenth song (which will be a No. 1 hit) and get that one correct, too, they’ll win $1 million dollars.

Celebrity Family Feud

Premiere date: Sunday, July 10 at 8 p.m. ET (ABC)

Celebrity Family Feud returns for an eighth season. It’s the same show as Family Feud but with teams led by or made up of celebrities. They’ll face-off against one another in the hopes of winning money for the charity of their choice.

The Final Straw

Premiere date: Sunday, July 10 at 9 p.m. ET (ABC)

A new physical comedy game show is coming to ABC! Titled The Final Straw, this series will see four teams basically playing a large scale game of Jenga. They’ll each be faced with life-sized themed towers full of objects they’ll have to carefully remove. The more objects they can successfully remove, the more prizes they can win. However, if a team’s tower falls, they’ll be eliminated.

The last team standing will face-off against The Mega Stack, a tower so difficult that these players will be in a battle of physics with the odds stacked against them. But! If they can overcome this last tower, they’ll will a life-changing grand prize.

The $100,000 Pyramid

Premiere date: Sunday, July 10 at 10 p.m. ET (ABC)

You know how this one goes. The $100, 000 Pyramid game pairs a celebrity with a contestant. As the teams go head-to-head, they’ll be competing to see who will get the opportunity to play for the grand prize. To do that, however, they’ll need to score the most points. The object of the game is to have the clue-giver successfully lead their partner to guessing the word that’ll earn them a point. They can do so by saying things akin to or like the word but not the word itself. It seems easy until you remember they’re racing against the clock!

Press Your Luck

Premiere date: Thursday, July 21 at 8 p.m. ET (ABC)

Press Your Luck, hosted by Elizabeth Banks, is set to stress contestants out! This game of wits is all about strategy…at least as long as the WHAMMY doesn’t ruin anyone’s plans. Three contestants will go head-to-head, answering questions to earn spins as well as win cash and prizes. If they can avoid the WHAMMY, they could walk off with quite the haul. Not to mention, in the all-new bonus round, the winning contestant has the opportunity to win a fortune as long as they can defeat the WHAMMY one last time.
